Risi Competizione: A Year End Wrap Up of 2016

Now that the 2016 International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series has drawn to a close, the Houston, Texas-based Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTLM team has been reflecting back over the season. The accomplishments this small U.S. team owned by Team Principal Giuseppe Risi achieved are immense, especially when competing against the best of the Grand Touring Le Mans (GTLM) manufacturers with far larger budgets, the factory teams of Corvette, Ford, Porsche and BMW. One of the most amazing actions of the Risi Ferrari team is that they finished every single race in which they competed in 2016. That includes 11 IMSA WeatherTech endurance and sprint races and the entire 24 Hours of Le Mans. That totals up to 93 hours and 18 minutes of racing (less a few pit stops) and 9,462 miles/15,234 kilometres and a total of 2,541 laps in 12 races. With that statistic they completed more race miles than any other 488 in the world!

Pilots of the Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 for the BUBBA Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach 100-minute race are Giancarlo Fisichella (Italy) and Toni Vilander (Finland). The Long Beach entry list has 25 cars, including 10 very competitive GTLM entries from five manufacturers. This is a three class race; GTLM, PC (LMPC) and P. This will be the largest field we’ve had here since American Le Mans Series (ALMS), with the addition of the LMPCs this year. The addition of the Pro-Am LMPC class will make this short 100-minute race much more difficult for all the GTLM cars than recent years when it was just P cars and GTLMs.
